ADAC SIMEXPO 2024 Recap A Warm Reception for Assetto Corsa EVO

From October 18th to 20th, 2024, the ADAC SimExpo took place in Dortmund, Germany, bringing together thousands of sim racing enthusiasts and industry professionals. We at KUNOS Simulazioni were thrilled to showcase the highly anticipated Assetto Corsa EVO, the next chapter in our franchise.

Throughout the event, our team worked closely with partners at various booths to ensure the best possible setup for players, guiding them through an immersive experience with the game. The passion and enthusiasm from attendees were palpable, and we sincerely thank everyone who provided valuable feedback to help us further improve our product.

One of the event’s highlights was the Assetto Corsa EVO panel, held on October 19th at 2:00 PM. The panel featured speakers Marco Massarutto, Co-Founder and Executive of KUNOS Simulazioni; Davide Brivio, Game Director; and SimGrid’s CMO, Steve Worrell.

During the panel, Marco Massarutto delved into the philosophy behind AC EVO, explaining the team’s desire to “return to its roots” while staying true to Assetto Corsa‘s DNA. “We took what we had done with the first title in terms of variety of cars, tracks, and gameplay, but we added what was missing from the Assetto Corsa series” he noted. Massarutto emphasized the increased focus on gameplay, game economy, and heightened attention to details such as car physics, handling, sounds, and track precision.

He further revealed that a completely new engine has been developed to support Assetto Corsa EVO, ensuring advanced technology for VR, triple screens, and other sim racing features. “This new engine,” he said, “offers features such as dynamic weather, dynamic tracks, and a free-roaming mode with a new terrain technology that allows us to manage maps with hundreds of kilometers of roads“.

Massarutto then touched on one of AC EVO‘s key innovations: rethinking sim racing. He explained that the aim isn’t only to simulate on-track racing, but to broaden the experience to include road driving. As an example, he mentioned the Morgan Super 3-Wheeler, stating, “We want players to enjoy every single car to its fullest, whether on the track or on the road“.

Davide Brivio expressed the team’s gratitude to the fans, noting that their love for cars and passion for sim racing have been the real driving forces behind development. Brivio elaborated that Assetto Corsa EVO was designed with a structure that will allow it to expand for many years, possibly indefinitely. “We want to create something beyond a simple career mode,” he said, “something that could be considered the RPG of cars, where players can collect, modify, and personalize their vehicles with unparalleled freedom“.

Steve Worrell from SimGrid highlighted the importance of the partnership between their platform and KUNOS Simulazioni. This collaboration aims to develop the best possible multiplayer system, allowing the team to focus on gameplay quality. Massarutto clarified that SimGrid would not be the exclusive platform for Assetto Corsa EVO’s online play. “We are leveraging SimGrid’s expertise,” Massarutto explained during the event, “but we want to keep the ecosystem open for any kind of activities like leagues” adding that they are committed to working on integrating the various communities and portals organizing races all over the world.

During the Q&A, it was confirmed that VR and triple screen setups are already functioning in an alpha version and will be officially included in the early access build available on January 16th. Additionally, curved screen correction was mentioned as a feature already present in the original Assetto Corsa and highly appreciated by the community.
It was also indicated that players won’t be limited to aesthetic modifications like liveries; they will have access to a much deeper level of customization. However, full details were kept under wraps, leaving some exciting surprises for the future.

To wrap up the event, Massarutto addressed the fans directly: “We came here after four years of extensive development, facing real-life challenges like many of you, including COVID and other difficulties. In the end, we brought the best Assetto Corsa we could make. We’re thrilled to see how much love, passion, and interest you are putting into our products. This is the fuel that drives us to work every day at our best. Don’t hesitate to talk to our team if you have any questions, concerns, or critiques. We want to give you the best experience possible”.

We would like to thank everyone who visited us at ADAC SimExpo 2024 and those who followed the event online! Your questions, critiques, and compliments motivate us to keep improving and deliver the best sim racing experience with Assetto Corsa EVO.
